The Explorer II has an additional 24-hour display. The dedicated pointer cycles the dial every 24 hours instead of the common 12 hours, and points to the fixed outer ring of the 24-hour scale. This function allows the wearer to distinguish between day and night, which is especially important for adventures in dark environments (such as deep into caves), or in areas where the sun never sets (such as in polar summer).

The Explorer II is equipped with a calendar display, an additional orange 24-hour hand and a 24-hour scale fixed outer ring to easily distinguish between day and night. It became the watch of choice for spelunkers, volcanologists and polar explorers. The watch's hour markers and hands use easy-to-read Chromalight displays, which emit a long-lasting blue light.
Oystersteel
Rolex uses Oystersteel forged stainless steel watch cases. The Oystersteel developed by the brand belongs to the 904L steel category. This alloy is widely used in high-tech, aviation and chemical industries, so it must have high corrosion resistance.
